Nestled within Cornwall’s Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Lizard is a fascinating area bursting with fascinating geology, magnificent coastline and welcoming seaside towns. Our selection of self-catering holiday cottages are perfectly located for discovering everything this wonderful part of the UK has to offer. To help get you started, we’ve picked six of the best things to do during your holiday at the Lizard Peninsula…
1. Visit Kynance Cove
Kynance Cove is one of the most famous and beautiful beaches on the Lizard Peninsula. Managed by the National Trust, it is known for its dramatic cliffs, turquoise water and distinctive serpentine rock formations. At low tide, the beach reveals white sand, caves and rocky islands that can be explored on foot. The striking contrast between the colourful rocks and clear sea makes it a favourite spot for photographers. The cove can also be reached via the South West Coast Path, which offers spectacular views along the coastline. After exploring the beach, visitors can stop at the small café above the cove and try a traditional Cornish pasty. Kynance Cove is best visited at low tide, when the beach and caves are fully accessible
2. Visit Lizard Point
Lizard Point is a National Trust site, known for its turquoise seas, dramatic cliffs and picturesque beaches. The Point is the most southerly part of the British mainland, and overlooks one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world – it has also been the site of numerous shipwrecks over the centuries. The combination of mild weather and unique geology means the area has an unusual collection of fauna and wildlife, such as adders and pink sea thrift.

3. Take the Lizard Coastal Walk
To really appreciate this beautiful scenery, why not take on the Lizard coastal walk? This 7-mile route is quite challenging at times, but provides unmatched views of the dramatic cliffs, unspoilt coastline and open countryside. The walk should take around 3 hours, and visitors can take advantage of the National Trust café and toilets at Kynance Cove. Keep your eyes open for basking sharks, seals and much more during your walk… you can find full details of the route here.
4. Go Coasteering around the Lizard Coast
If you’re looking for a more active way to enjoy this spectacular part of Cornwall, why not try coasteering? This popular activity involves using Cornwall’s rocky coastline as your very own climbing frame or adventure playground… scramble over rocks, wade through rock pools, explore caves and even jump off cliffs! It provides explorers with a completely different way to experience the coastline. Lizard Adventure are experts in coasteering and have several sites around the Lizard, allowing them to find something which suits all kinds of groups.

5. Explore Bonython Estate Gardens
Bonython Estate Gardens are a wonderful place to visit at any time of year. Visitors can discover the 18th Century walled garden, stroll through the traditional Potager garden and orchard, and even enjoy a tranquil walk around three lakes. Each and every part of the garden is bursting with colour, texture and life, creating a wonderful place to while away a few hours surrounded by nature. There’s even a charming thatched tearoom, where you can enjoy a delicious slice of cake and a warming cup of tea.
6. Enjoy Fine Dining at the Kota Restaurant in Porthleven
If you have a special occasion to celebrate during your break, or just fancy treating yourself to a delicious meal, Kota Restaurant in Porthleven is an ideal choice.
